Central Region was amazed when indigens woke up one evening to watch their fellow Coaster on a National TV contesting for that ultimate prize from MTN; Hitmaker Reality Show. There has been many but his tenure was really recognized and given much attention.
Born Isaac Sackey Jnr but to his mates and friends as 'Swampo' when he is out and about. In showbiz, he is known as Papa Tawiah. He had his basic and senior high education at the Catholic Jubilee School and St. Augustine’s College respectively, all in Cape Coast. From there he continued to study Accounting in the Cape Coast Polytechnic. He furthered the University of Cape Coast to earn a bachelors degree in B.Com.
Music in Central Region is developing at a pace. From 2010 where most of the now established artistes but still working hard emerged. The Central Region have had awards presented to such hardworking artistes organized by Candymania Entertainment. Jungo, Mikey Gh, Teephlow, Orkortor Perry, Papa Wastyk and others were the few to mention at that time. Hip-life (rap music) was the order of the day coupled with a bit of reggae dancehall until the introduction of highlife by others including Papa Tawiah.
‘I was doing music but in my room. I started doing professional music in 2013 and after a year I won the ultimate slot to represent Central Region at the MTN Hitmaker reality show season 3’’.Even though he couldn’t take the first place but evicted during the reality show, his fans didn’t explode any ill comment about his performance. His stage posture and engagement with his fans was just marvelous.
He didn’t hesitate to mention Paapa Yankson when my site partner Cape360 asked who he looks up to in his chosen genre of music; high-life. “Great legends like him with his great skills in combining words with beat needs to be taken emulated. I have a lot more to learn from this man and if plans go as expected, I may have collaboration with him”. Papa Tawiah is inspired from the activities that go on in and around his environment.
The future for such an internally motivated artiste is as secured as he aspires to soar that high among Africa’s greatest when it comes to music. Music producers and individuals who in one hand can help such young talented artistes wouldn’t regret investing in Swampo because he can really deliver.
“Bro, it has been a while after the reality show but I’m now ready to satisfy the strong and persistent desire of my fans.” he said
