The president of Ghana Music Rights Owners (GHAMRO) Kojo Antwi , together with his executives Rex Omar, Alhaji Banda (Bandex), Zapp Mallet, Mary Ghansah, Augustina Addison, Nana Tuffour, Kow Sessah Acquaye –member of State Attorney and Representative of the Attorney General, Tictac, Mr. Captain Abraham Adjatey and others met the press in Kumasi at the Sunset Hotel on the 12th of May 2015.The aim of the meeting was to introduce the new board of GHAMRO to the press, discuss plans of the new board and most importantly to announce the sharing of 1.6million cedis among Musicians/Copyright Owners in June 2015.
The Executives of GHAMRO led by Kojo Antwi (President) also met members (Musicians/Copyright owners) at the Centre for National Culture Kumasi, to make accounts, discuss how the 1.6million cedis will be shared among members and also introduce the new board to the members.
The head of Administration of GHAMRO Mr. Abraham Adjateyi stated that the 1.6million cedis is the money received from the Blank Levy, hence shouldn’t be termed as “royalties”. Blank levy is imposed by government on importers of recording devices such as pendrives, ipods etc.
Head of Welfare (GHAMRO),Alhaji Banda (Bandex) also stated that the new board has outlined packages for musicians/copyright owners.Some of the packages include registering members under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and other profitable Insurance policies which will cover 2 children of each member. “GHAMRO will take good care of aged Musicians/Copyright owners”- Bandex told Ghanaflow.net.
Bloggers (Don Twix – Ghanaflow.net, Busumuru Kingsto n- Hellogh), Radio Personalities (Dave Hammer-Hello Fm, DJ premier-Metro fm, Charles Asare (OneCharles) - Angel Fm, DJ B Ice-Sikka Fm, Amandzeba Phiiphi Smmyth etc were present at the meeting. There were also reps from UTV, TV3 and Metro Tv.
