New York based Ghanaian R&B/Pop/Hiplife singer Jay Ghartey was the headline performer at the just ended 3rd annual African Fashion Week held at Daniels Spectrum Cultural Centre, 585 Dundas St. E., Toronto, Canada.
The four-day event which saw bold patterns, bright colours and eye-popping headpieces dominated the runway also saw Jay Ghartey thrill hundreds of fashionistas with some of his hit singles.
Ghartey did 2 sets performance with “Shinning Gold”, “My Lady”, “Papa” and “African Money (No Fronting)” from his catalogue. He begun the performance with Acappella of “Shinning Gold” to get them into the mood before getting them on their feet with his 2013 VGMA nominated Afro-pop single “Papa”.
“It’s all about African unity — it’s about getting Africa to the mainstream culture. Everybody is doing it in their own ways — musicians, athletes, designers, filmmakers, etc. We all need to support each other, so when I heard about this event, I came to support,” Jay said after his performance.
According to reports, Nigerian designer Adebayo Jones, known as the King of Couture, was one of the most notable designers in attendance. Olympian Ben Johnson, who has dabbled in fashion design, and John Bosco, the Consul General of Ghana for Canada, were among high profile attendees.
